Gardiner Chess

We are the market leaders for chess in Queensland, with our core business to provide chess coaching classes in schools throughout the state. The Chess Association of Queensland has awarded Gardiner Chess the contract as organisers of the Official Queensland Inter-School Chess Championships each year, whilst we run many weekend events which cater to all ages and ability levels.

Gardiner Chess is the number one chess coaching organisation in Queensland. We have a variety of programs to suit your school, with options including out of hours classes, curriculum lessons and both full and half day incursions. Based on the Gold Coast since 2002, we are an established business providing quality coaching.

2024 Term 2 Gold Coast One Day Challenge

Gardiner Chess is excited to present the Gold Coast Term 2 One Day Challenge. This one day rapid event is perfect for juniors of all ages and abilities as there will be two divisions!

The OPEN division is for all rated players and for those trying hard to get a rating. The NOVICE division will be for unrated players only and is perfect for younger or newer players wanting to try a weekend tournament for the first time.

 

  • When: Sunday 12th May
  • Where: William Duncan State School (Cnr Explorers Way and Alexander Dr, Highland Park)
  • Time: 9.30am for registration, starting at 10.00am and finishing approx 4.00pm
  • Cost: $40.00 per player

Other Tournament details are:

  • Time Control: 15 minutes per player + 3 seconds per move
  • Prizes
    • Open: 1st to 3rd place + 2 x Rating Groups
    • Novice: 1st to 3rd + Other trophies
  • All games submitted for Queensland Junior Rating
  • More prizes added pending numbers.
  • Registration will CLOSE on Friday 10th May!!

Come along and give this event a go and have a heap of fun! Parents can hang around and enjoy some sunshine in the outside area or head across the road to the cafe and other eateries!

2024 Sunshine Coast Individual Age Championships

Sunshine Coast Grammar School
9:00 am - 2:30 pm

Welcome to the term 2 Inter-School event for Sunshine Coast Schools. This event is open to players in years P – 12 with multiple divisions on the day to cater to all ages.

  • When: Monday 13th May
  • Where: Sunshine Coast Grammar School
  • Who: Students from Prep to Year 12. (Children will play in divisions based on the year of their birth, some age groups may be combined if the arbiters deem it to be necessary.)
  • Time: Registration from 8.45am, start at 9.30am. Finish approx. 2.15pm (allow to 2.30pm)
  • Cost: $24.00 per player, invoiced to the school post event (Includes GST)

This event will have multiple divisions based on age. Please ensure registration is done either via the website link or by sending an excel spreadsheet to [email protected] no later than Thursday 9th May!

As always, if anyone is sick, we please ask them to stay away from the event where possible.

Trophies/medals will be awarded for 1st to 3rd individuals in each age group, with merit ribbons to those individuals scoring 4.5/7 or higher.

This event will have the following divisions:

  • Open Division – for rated players born before 2012 and players wanting to compete for the Open titles
  • Over 12 Novice – for players born before 2012 who aren’t ready for the open
  • Under 12 Division – for players born in 2012 and 2013
  • Under 10 Division – for players born in 2014 and 2015
  • Under 8 Division – for players born in 2016 and 2017 or later

Students will be able to play anyone else including from their own school. There are no teams in this event.

Invoices will be sent to schools after the event takes place.

Please ensure that you have have read all the relevant policies and procedures below before entering the event.

Unregistered schools may have their students excluded from the first round of the tournament, at the Chief Arbiter’s discretion. Schools arriving late must contact the Gardiner Chess office at 07 5522 7221, and may also miss the first round.

  • Who: All primary school students in Prep to Year 6.
  • Time: Registration from 8.45am, start at 9.30am. Finish approx. 2.15pm (allow to 2.30pm)

Holiday Programs

Gardiner Chess holiday programs run from 8.30am to 4.00pm on selected days during the school holidays in both Brisbane and Gold Coast. During the day, students will have the chance to undertake lessons, play tournament matches and enjoy some fresh air. Holiday programs are often followed by a tournament on the final day which is open to all players. Most importantly students will have FUN!
